Unexpected Indoor Gardens at Waveny House, New Canaan
Shara and Perry, our star-crossed lovers caught in the path of a whirlwind series of hurricane-force winds, brought unparalleled energy and light to the Three Roots Studio with their late summer wedding at the Waveny House in New Canaan, Connecticut.
Shara and I connected a few months prior to her and Perry’s wedding and instantly we connected over her love of garden delights and a desire to intentionally dress the stately Waveny House. We discussed dancing dahlias, fluttering hydrangeas, and statement garden roses, all of the necessary elements to create impactful and purposeful floral designs to accent the cocktail hour wedding of her dreams. Thankfully, September is high season in Connecticut for show-stopping locally grown flowers and I was able to source incredible flowers in a dazzling array of rainbow pastel hues. I was even able to source a few exceptional, and irridescent, water lily style dahlias.
Mother Nature has a way of throwing a wrench in all of our best laid plans and this wedding day was no exception. Heavy rain and strong winds were forecast for the morning and afternoon and the originally scheduled outdoor ceremony swiftly was moved to a covered reception space after a few ceremony chairs found themselves thrown across the Waveny lawn. Our bride and groom took the last minute change in stride and exchanged their vows in front of a group of family and friends who couldn’t be happier to witness the beginning of their next chapter.
As if written in a wedding fairytale as their ceremony ended the sun began to poke out from behind the clouds and the wedding party was able to enjoy an evening under the stars dancing and chatting their night away.
For our part a series of delicate bud vases featuring dahlias, hydrangeas, cosmos, roses, lisianthus and more were woven through the Waveny House rooms to create intentional pockets of floral adornment through the series of seating vignettes Shara and Perry had selected for guests to enjoy. The couple went for contemporary white ceramic vessels to complete their floral design deck and the flowers were in a symphonic assortment of pink, purple, yellow and green hues to create an electric assortment of values in-line with the couples dynamic personalities.
